I am a new counting participant. I am looking for a detector to be able to participate in the science being done here. How can i obtain a detector? I see that all the new models are sold out. How can someone joining the team get one? Can they be made or purchased else where or from the project itself? Any information would greatly be appreciated.

Is there no one that can comment on this topic? It has been viewed 22 times. Could at least someone give me some sort of direction or at least respond so i know the post isn't falling on deaf ears. I very much want to participate in this project but with out some input from other members i will have to move on to a project who with respond and help me participate. Please respond or give me some direction please.

Detectors are available only when Szopler announce it - he do it when he have spare time only...

Does the GMC-300 have a usb port to attach to the computer for computing or how is that done to be able to participate in the project?

Also can you use the GMC-320 or the GMC-300E or the GMC-300E plus? I would prefer to use the GMC-320E plus if i can but i don't know how the setup is required for the project.

The best person to ask about kit is Szopler

Good afternoon, would also like to participate in the project and must purchase the sensor, have any specific date for when the detectors will be sold? remembering that apparent mind I am the first to be interested in the project in Latin America, I live in Brazil and I believe that my input will help recruit new menbros for the project.

Hi. I was wondering if this project supports the MightyOhm geiger counter ? It's one of the most popular and easy to use Geiger counter kits out there. I'd like to join the project and this is the device I am using.

Hi. That detector looks pretty easy to make, and is not a bad price. This project doesn't support that counter, but another open project likely does: http://Radmon.org. They support several kit/homemade sensors, including this one. The MightyOhm serial data will be supported in the next release, and the pulse output (connected to an audio input of your PC/laptop/RPi) is supported now.

Is this kit really not usable ? I can´t see much difference with our 2.61... doesn´t support the counter ? Is it possible to modify it ???

All the sensors in this project require the BOINC client, which will not perform Work Units without the sensor. Sensor data can only be submitted through the BOINC client. The R@H software that is downloaded through BOINC to the client makes USB requests to the sensor for a "feature report" to obtain the data, so another non-project sensor would have to produce this same 'feature report' to work, and would have to enumerate the same as a project sensor. Since it's open source, the firmware can be ported to another microcontroller, but I don't think anyone has actually done this and it seems like alot of work. The developers make no claim that other off-the-shelf sensors work (at least as far as I've read; I've read through most is this site but not everything). It's also possible for the R@H software to be modified to accept other sensor's data, but only the developers can answer for that direction.

Actually, I now see one commercial sensor has been used for this project by a few users (gmc-300E). See http://radioactiveathome.org/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=160&nowrap=true#3193. There seems to be no clear information how to use it here, and the web site for the sensor refers to another map, http://gmcmap.com.

How ca I use the GMC300 with the project? I own one but did not manage to communicate with BOINC.

OK, folks I'm giving up on this project.

Hello, I was going to suggest that you didn't add the sensor again when you moved it to a new machine on 16th September last year, but I don't think it's that because ... Around 25th February your awarded credit per task drops to half, which is what happens when a sensor isn't registered. There's a few odd run times and abandoned tasks around that date, so it looks like something you did then. Looking at my own tasks over that period everything is fine, and still is now, so I don't think it's a server problem. But what do I know :) ____________

My sensor is registered, it's your tube.

Where can I view the source code for this project?

I get tasks that all get zero credit: 'Could not find any of the devices listed in sensors.xml: Device communication error' since April 21 2020.

Managed to solve my problem, but not in a straightforward manner. This means I can't exactly tell you how I did it, other than it included affirming the location of my sensor on the map.

All of my tasks are going through valid but as 0 credits too. Have sensors set up (just as I used to on my old account a good few years back), but no joy credit wise :/

Have sensors set up (just as I used to on my old account a good few years back), but no joy credit wise :/ All of your tasks on the three active machines show ... Could not find any of the devices listed in sensors.xml: The specified device was not found ... in the stderr logs, so the app isn't seeing the sensors ____________

As far as I was aware, I'd done everything right, but I guess not... I'll have a little fiddle with it, but I'm not sure why they're saying they can't find the sensors... Cheers, Chris
