After long time I will like to order from professional company a set of around 100-150 detectors...
What you think about it?

(I know, map doesn't work as Google change its policy, we will move to OSM in January...)

New detectors cost will be around 30-33 Euros as we not assemble it manually ourselves but order it from selected company...

Might be an idea to fix the validator that's been down for 2 weeks before expecting anyone to show much interest. Just saying.

Firstly, I just would like to know, how many people are interested, then get quote from few companies who can assembly it for me (price).

If price be acceptable then I will order a set of them myself and publish special topic here for interested users :)

Message 3719 - Posted: 1 Jan 2019 | 10:04:02 UTC - in response to Message 3710.

I would join, but I have questions:

- hardware requirements?
- voltage? 220V? USB to PC?
- installation outside? temperature range? rain and snow resistance?
- datas from sensor with LAN to PC and or USB to PC?

- software requirements?
- usable with kernel linux 4.19.above?

If I could do, I would order 1 detector.

Message 3720 - Posted: 1 Jan 2019 | 14:10:18 UTC - in response to Message 3719.

It will be same (or very similar) detector as in last version. It will be powered by USB port from computer, not water resistant.

I'm interested too but a total noob. This is for indoor use only? What are the requirements? Full PC? Raspberry pi? Or is it standalone?

Thank you for the info

Purple Air has a really nice clean interface for their sensors. Can we get something like this? They seem to be using OSM too.

Are there any special requirements for setting up the detectors/calibrating that require other materials we need to purchase? Are there any potential issues shipping to US because of components?

We will update map to OSM, but I don't know how it will look like after update ;)

@scole of TSBT
No, sensor doesn't need any additional parts excluding USB cable (like the one as for printers). Also, detectors can be send to US without any problems, but from last experience when we shipped it there users had to wait few weeks longer for delivery as US customs hold it quite long time.

I responded to the survey/poll that I was interested. I'll take as many as 5 depending on what the shipping costs are. Any idea the of package weight, dimensions of package, shipping company and city shipping from so we can estimate the shipping costs?

The detector is 23cm x 5cm x5cm and it weight is less then 100gr. Package will be of course bigger as device must be secured but weight not change very much.

All details (including shipping cost) I will provide when I get a quotes from manufacturers and I confirm when all of them come to me...

Not yet.
Is now way to order it yet.

To be clear, I just send queries with specifications to few small manufacturers specialised in small productions to get their prices.

I suppose that if we had (previously) costs at 23-25 Euros level and price of some parts are drop down then I can expect price from that small companies at the level of 30 Euros... We need to wait until I get answers before I start collect any orders.

IF the price be acceptable I will order myself 100 - 150pcs and setup an order system.

This topic is set to get info that it's a chance to get this 100 orders and for me to be sure that I not left with 90 unwanted detectors and bill to pay ;)

Yes, I know :)
I'm just waiting for PCB design sheet and will send requests. I have found (at the moment) 5 potential manufacturers.

Next what I'm thinking of is searching also in China... But not sure if this is a good idea.

There will be definitely "discount" in shipping cost, but the detector price will be same for all countries/order sizes and as low as possible. I will only charge about 5-7% above manufacturer price to be prepared for replace faulty pieces and other warranty stuff...

Count me in for 3 detectors. I'm on the same team as coleslaw that posted above. Several people on our team have expressed interest in getting detectors, not sure how many will post here. It's possible we could combine our orders into one for shipping to the USA.

One for me to Japan ... please

Actually better two ... one I keep in-house and one I can put outside. Will be interesting to see differences, if any. Or when I go to other location to have it with me.

If you say. USB ... is the software open source ? MIT, BSD or Apache ? I might have some idea ...but GPL would prevent it

I just get first quote from first manufacturer.
With order of 100pcs the price will be about 200PLN for 1 piece (46,5€).
Order of 200pcs price drop to about 170PLN each (40€).

Edit:

In mean time Ryszard Korczyk probably will sell some "end-of-line" detectors made by him in past. It will be around 80-100pcs in really better price :)

In my opinion, manufacturers price is to high.

I understand they costs, but now I make research in commercial detectors - maybe for similar price they offer more then our project?

Message 3777 - Posted: 24 Jan 2019 | 21:40:15 UTC - in response to Message 3770.

... research in commercial detectors - maybe for similar price ...

Ryszard Korczyk probably will sell some "end-of-line" detectors made by him in past. It will be around 80-100pcs in really better price :)

I hope this is resolved relatively soon.

And please, when you have decided what course you will take, put a note which will show in the boinc manager's Notices tab.
Thanks

I'd like to have one sensor. Please info if the product is orderable. Money doesn't matter. Thank you very much. <3

Yep put me down for one as well Krzysztof. I've been running mine 24/7 since I received it so it can't hurt to have a spare one ready to go if something ever happens to this one.

Will you be doing the same as last time where there was a cut off date to order by? That way you know the numbers of detectors to order and it also guarantees people who have shown prior interest/ordered will get a device.
As before you could then have a second round of orders later on if there's enough interest or just buy extras.

Also is it necessary to show interest on the patreon page or will just posting here be OK?

And a few more question, like how will payment be made? Will it be via Patrone or will credit/debit card be OK? Also will you be shipping to the world? I'm an Aussie.

Cheers and good luck getting the detectors at a good price.

PS I'd like to change my order from 1 to 2 units if possible please.

1. It will be no "cut of" day for orders. Orders will be realised until all pieces be sold.
2. It is not necessary to show interest on Patreon, I'm reading both sites ;)
3. For payments I will create special page, not decided yet. Most probably at the moment is PayPal.

I will not make cut of date as I'm decided to order 200pcs and I really hope that all of them will go. Maybe not at day one, but in quite short time. Also this make "no rush" situation on sale.

Awesome! Hope you can solve the technical details.

Do you know the approximate size of final sensor? I want to leave enough space in my outdoor sensor box.

After [a] long time I will like to order from professional company a set of around 100-150 detectors...
What [do] you think about it?

This was posted nearly three months ago.

When can we expect to hear news on this, and be able to buy a detector?

Ok, I'm prepared to send about 10pcs (at the moment, it will be more) to USA.
Best way is to send it as one parcel, as sending single detectors will:

- cost not to much, but delivery time in this option is 5-7 weeks
- expensive, fast delivery cost about... 50USD for single detector.

Sending in same method (fast one) 5pcs costs same money (50USD)...
So, if you can prepare 5 or 10 persons to buy it, maybe it's a good idea to send it as one or two parcels?

To people from other countries I will write separately.

Still interested in 2 detectors if possible.

Will you be sending direct message on this site? Or some other way to know when and how to make payment? I've been following this project for 3+ years and never have been informed about past detector runs. Missed out on the fun 4 times now :^(

I think he is very busy and putting as much time as he can into this. He is an admin on multiple projects and he has a day job too. He said all orders would be filled and I'm sure he will PM everyone when their number in queue comes up.

Hi from the middle of Britain, France.

I would like to buy one if it's possible :)

What are the payment method?

Message 3849 - Posted: 19 Sep 2019 | 18:28:03 UTC - in response to Message 3844.

I have been expressing an interest in buying a detector for nearly a year.
Given that, I don't think that express shipping is any issue at all; 5 to 7 weeks by slower shipping to America is fine with me -- BUT, I would like to get a detector.
We live in North Georgia, in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The area power company is building two new nuclear reactor generation units, the first in about 40 years in this country.
From what I can tell on the map, to the degree it is accurate, there are only three detectors within over a 900 kilometer radius; none in Georgia nor South Carolina, which is also close to the Savannah River Plant. (The River is the boundary for the two States.)
Since I have no detector, I do not log in RadioactiveAtHome all that regularly. Nor do I check the email associated with this boinc account regularly.
I have, by way of private message, sent the best (work) email contact for me. PLEASE keep me on your list of people who want to buy a detector; and PLEASE be in contact by way of my work email.
Thanks

I would be happy to handle bulk shipments to the USA in order to take advantage of cheaper shipping costs from Poland, then ship cheap or Flat Rate Priority here from USA. Once here, I can ship flat rate 2 day priority for $8 anywhere in USA.

... there are only three detectors within over a 900 kilometer radius;

True for Radioactive@home, but there are detectors in the Atlanta area on Radmon.org and Netc.com.

OK, please count me in.

When will the detectors already be? I have long wanted to order a couple of pieces.

Thanks for this info. Yes, there are two in metro Atlanta on Netc.com
but only one at Radmon.org (actually it's 20+ mi N. of Atlanta).
The next nearest (Netc.com) are two that are 150 miles away. Netc.com no longer sells detectors which tie in to PCs
I'm open to buying a detector from Radmon.org, IF I can hook it up with Radioactiveathom.net However, it seems from their site to register that one already has to have a Geiger counter in order even to begin. https://radmon.org/index.php/register

You need to prepare a few pieces of information before you start.
1) Your geiger counter model and the type of tube inside it
2) The conversion factor for your tube. This is a number that converts CPM into uSV/hr.
note: "before you start."
they have a pic of a Geiger counter on their site: but it
does not show as img: https://radmon.org/images/mygeiger_mw0uzo_small.jpg

I've done some searching, but I find to way to buy a detector from Radmon.org.
Do you know if one can?

Message 3856 - Posted: 30 Sep 2019 | 20:39:12 UTC - in response to Message 3710.

I would definitely want to purchase and setup an internet-broadcast-capable radioactivity detector, for use in USA (Washington State - Home of the Hanford reactor, among others). Please consider me, "interested", until the units you specify for use to broadcast to RADIOACTIVE@HOME become available (with a final unit shipping price to USA - Zipcode 98382). If the total price is right, consider me, "committed." I have a Geiger meter already, but I don't believe that it features a "data-out" port...

If you have any further questions, or concerns, or updates, regarding a timeline/a price set in-mind to "reserve" one of your upcoming batches of detectors, please let me know. Thanks! -Tim-

Now here's a good idea! I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for the quicker shipping/affirmation that the device(s) cleared customs without any issues! If krzyszp approves the idea and ships all of the U.S.-bound detectors to one person in the U.S. (as long as he trusts/has complete confidence that this person will keep his word), I would actually want to purchase 3 (three) units, total (a couple back-ups never hurt). Again, if krzyszp is kosher with such an idea, as well, it would be simple for me to PayPal the appropriate funds to someone residing in the U.S. Anyone else's thoughts on the matter?

With the new customs tariffs, if they are built and shipped from China that could add another 30 to 40 USD to price. If there is don't have it shipped by UPS.

On another unrelated item and post elsewhere on web, ship from manufacture the import tax was 35 USD, another person in same area had exact same item shipp to him in 'same' location and UPS charged over 400 USD for import coverage.
Now i remember the item, is was a miner for crypto.

A bit late to the conversation, but I'd actually really like a detector too. I know that you guys tend to do them in batches, so no worries if it's not a good time. But if/when more become available, please do contact me.

I join the inquiry.
Alternatively, if there are no ready detectors, I would also be happy to buy back a programmed micro controller and PCB.
I can handle the assembly quite well.

--

Dołączam się do zapytania.
Ewentualnie jeśli nie ma gotowych detektorów również chętnie odkupił bym zaprogramowany już mikro kontroler i płytkę PCB.
Z montażem sobie raczej poradzę.

Hello. I'm new to this project as SETI is ramping down and, after being involved with it for the past 15 years, I would like to continue to allowing my computers to be used with BOINC. And this project seemed interesting. However, I have been unable to find definitive info to allow me to order a detector. Could you please let me know where to look to place my order. Thanks, Dave Whitehead

I attached this boinc project over five (5) years ago.
I have repeatedly expressed interest in buying a detector.
I still want to participate actively, but I want to buy a device which was

NOT made in China.

Hello, please forgive my english...

I'm a new in this, I would like to contribute. I have seen that there are no nearby sensors in my area. I live near factories, refineries, thermal industries ... I would like to know the levels that are around here.

My area is Algeciras (Cádiz) in Spain.

Thanks for this project.

The project Administrators need to shit or get off the pot and hand over the project to people who actually want to do something with it. Anyone who see this who would like to join me in taking this project over, contact me. I have already contacted Krzysztof 'krzyszp' Piszczek, and the former project manager, but all efforts were to the wind, as expected, no response. They have abandoned the project. my belief is that they should at least hand off the project to a group of people who want to see the project succeed, why just abandon a project and let no one else enjoy it because they don't "feel" like doing it anymore...

First, krzyszp has been ill and was hospitalized late last year and I imagine he is working to get his life on course again.

Second, there has always been a high demand for sensors for this project. It takes a great deal of time to have a batch built, tested and distributed. I was patient, paid attention to the project and was able to buy a few for myself and other friends when the last batch was build in 2019. Be patient or build your own. There are instructions and plans available somewhere.

Finally, the project admins are volunteers also and real life priorities to deal with above these projects. If you think you can do better, start your own project.

Hi,

I'd like to contribute to this Project, but I need to get a sensor first. Can I buy one here or are there other compatible sensors on the market?

I live in Germany and I want to connect the sensor to a Rasberry Pi.

I ordered the sensor on Amazon.de on March 28, 2021 and it was delivered to me on March 30, 2021. Today I connected the sensor to a PC with Win10 64bit. First, I downloaded USB drivers and GMC DataViewer from the manufacturer's website to detect the correct COM port. The connection of the sensor to the PC itself was without a problem and after a while the first task in BOINC started to be processed.

So far, it seems that the sensor is communicating properly with the PC and counting the first task.

You can use a GMC-300 on Windows. See this post...

Hi everyone,

I also want to be a part of the Radioactive@Home and am in need of a detector.
The alternative GMC300 is quite pricy.

Could anyone give me advice? I want to spend about € 25 - € 30, including shipment en VAT.

a thought going through my head is try using the RadMon series kits and attempt to retrofit for Radioactive@Home? I have a current one that I may try this with

Hi,
Does new detector will be release soon? If yes I would like to join to radioactive@home team.
If not, does anyone want to sell it? I would like to buy it.

Hi, buy this one GQ GMC-300E-Plus. It is USB detector with battery, display and it is easy to get it working with Windows. I am running it for while on windows 10 and it has been working fine.
You need to download some xtra files:

Okay I bought one of the QG-GMC-300E-Plus Detectors. Does this have to be run on Windows or Linux ? And where exactly do you put the downloaded extra files, which directory ???

Windows only. Here is a zip file with the extra files and instructions to make it work. The 2 important things are:
1. Determining the com port it's working on. There are instructions included to explain how to get that info.
2. You must manually open the com port to the device using the GQGMCounterPRO.exe application first and any time the computer reboots. After a reboot the com port may change. The radioactive@home project application cannot be running when you try to manually open the com port. It's easiest to just shut down boinc, open the port, then start boinc again.

I'd set the WU run time to 1 hour to begin with. If after a few WUs, they still score 0 credit it's most likely the com port in not correct or com port was not opened first

Yeah well whatever it takes to get this thing to run right is obviously above my pay grades, it merrily clicks away & shows #CPM's on the dsplay but still no credit so something isn't right. Device manager shows COM 7 & the GMC-320 shows COM 7 ... It's a Windows 11 Pro Laptop is that has any bearing on it ...

Heartbeat started..
Realtime monitoring started.
GMC-320Re 4.70 connected on COM7@115200.

Message 4080 - Posted: 2 Jun 2023 | 6:14:02 UTC - in response to Message 4077.

it merrily clicks away.

...

You can disable the Buzzer (that's how it's called at this Website) in the Preferences settings, but that only works once you get a WU or if the Feeder is running at all - can't say exactly right now, as mine is continuing to click, even if i manually update the project every few seconds. Messages tell me Feeder isn't running, so no new WU at the moment.

But even if the Feeder will run again somewhen, you might get Mails or Messages within BOINC saying that the Location of your Sensor isn't set. I tried to set it maybe hundred times but it fails every time. One of my Sensors has a correct Location set, the other one doesn't and i keep getting notifications for that one's location.

Furthermore, it looks as if the input fields are reversed. Latitude and longitude have to be entered the other way round than you are used to.

I'd like to join but the suggested detector GMC-320S is about 75$ on amazon which looks a bit expensive

Could you please suggest are there any less expensive options to join the project?

Thank you very much!
