thanks TJM,
I forwarded this info to my colleague. :-)

Second, what do you think about adding a new parameter marking whether the sensor is indoor or outdoors?

I am not sure whether the sensor is able to be placed outdoors without significant modifications so maybe such parameter would be useless.

Hi,
have to also add some info:

@phys: using Scidavis or Qtiplot aren't you? :-)

We also discussed the measuring time. Is is clear, that longer sampling time would be better for the tube to collect more counts and to get less variable (=more "stable") background measurements. Would be also smaller load for the server etc.

I did some analyses and currently continue with it and we will see.

From the other point of view - this is not scientific measuring equipment for high precision data acquisition but rather an indicator. Ok, maybe using 5-10 samples moving average would improve the values, although wiping out some background variations.

So for example - variations from 100 to 200 nSv/h are relatively big, but it is still background. If there were any radiation event, the GM tube would have enough counts per selected sampling time and would be quite enough for measuring.

Finally, the decision what to do in such situation cannot be based few measurements (could be false points) and on these sensors only - it is just for reference. But, as we know from Japan, such network can help the first respond teams to refine the overview of the situation for next steps.

thank you very much TJM. We are currently running some analyses of the data and will see about the results. The method to download the data will also be discussed. :-)

Thanks for reply TJM.
We are not going to download full dump regularly, but we would need it as start point.

I would appreciate any advice in this case.
For example if I use this link:
http://radioactiveathome.org/boinc/gettrickledata.php?start=X&hostid=Y
without any parameter set,
I get output for 48763789 to 48770832, while there is written that the database contains data 48763789:60449876

If I modify the link to:
http://radioactiveathome.org/boinc/gettrickledata.php?start=60449876&hostid=Y

I get the last portion of the data.
However, if I am right, the Sample ID (starts now at 48763789) changes, so I cannot use it as fixed value in a script.

I know, that I can jump to next data page by using the last sample id as the X parameter in the link.

Second, it would be necessary - if we consider daily database update - to somehow set the script to only load pages for the particular day.

Is there any additional parameter which could be used for this task or do I have to somehow calculate/guess the approximate number of data pages, which should be checked?

thanks

hi guys,
many thanks for all this info.

However, is there any simple trick (script etc.) to download the whole database or all data for single station without manual downloading or generating plenty of download links?

We would like to perform some analyses of long term data (1 month, first only for 1-2 stations) and later maybe more.

thanks much
26) Message boards : Science : is it possible to get data streams from this project? (Message 1270)

Hi,
thanks much for reply. We were thinking about possibility to acquire data from Radioactive@home database and save a copy of them on our server + view them together with our stations.

Additionally, it would make it possible to refine our scientific results because of better coverage of whole country.

According to the guys from main boinc forum access to the database should be possible if you are not against sharing the data.

thanks

Jan

PS: I will send you a PM with details which I do not want to post here.

Hi,
we highly appreciate your project. However, this project is BOINC only and there are also other projects using standalone Arduino stations and platforms like Pachube/Cosm. So the huge potential is scattered into many separated projects.

So my questions are:
1) is it somehow possible to paralelly get data streams sent within Radioactive@Home and aggregate them in external database with data acquired outside the BOINC platform? It would be nice solution which would give use the possibility to use and show data from various sources. We are interested in building a public map - primarily of Czech Republic - which would be not tied only to BOINC, but should also contain data from standalone stations (working without PC like IP webcams etc.) built using Arduino platform (more concepts available).

2) which GM tubes do you use in your detectors? Just curious :-)

thanks much
