1) Message boards : Number crunching : Sensor run in debug mode? (Message 2957)

OK, I gave it 2 hours which I hope is enough for you to figure out what the issue is.

I then put the sensor on an XP machine and it seems to be running fine.

Let me know if you want me to try anything else. I'd prefer to run on the Linux box rather than the XP machine.

Thanks

Could you try to enable the debug mode ? Then the app will log more info, it might help to find the source of the problem.

OK, done

The server sent you a warning because there is something wrong with your host.

http://radioactiveathome.org/boinc/results.php?hostid=8073

Workunit runtimes are very short and for some reason the app tries to read data from the sensor every second instead of every 4 minutes. Could you try to reset the project ?

I have reset the project
I have unplugged the sensor and plugged it in again
I have rebooted the PC

It still runs these short tasks so I'm NNT for now.

This happened before and no-one responded. I tried some time later and it started working again.

Oh well...

Just to be clear, have you verified your setting at this link:
http://radioactiveathome.org/boinc/prefs.php?subset=project
You should see the following near the bottom:

Application/Sensor debug Disabled

Is yours showing disabled too?

I regularly get this email from the server and my only sensor is NOT in debug mode.

Looks like your sensor stops working after the first few readings (the cpm drops to zero). Or your USB port goes into power-saving mode maybe?

I don't know what this means though:

"claimed interface, could not get bound driver: No data available,0"

I don't get that in my stderr output.

Edit: You haven't got a BU asic on the same MB USB port have you? That'll be sucking you dry (if you will).

No, I kept my BU ASIC WELL away from anything else - you're right, it kills anything else :(

My machine is a desktop, so no power saving mode and it had been running this project without any worries since I got the sensor last year.

Would love to know what "claimed interface, could not get bound driver: No data available,0" means...

To add to the weirdness, I just looked through some of the Marked as Invalid WUs and found some very odd entries like this one:

3765694 3746410 8073 3 Sep 2014 | 7:23:44 UTC 3 Sep 2014 | 7:24:22 UTC Completed, marked as invalid 112,006.00 112,006.00 0.00 Radioactivity Monitor v1.77 (nci)

Turnaround time was 38 seconds yet somehow I clocked up 112,006 CPU seconds. Did I just invent time travel?

Hi admin folks,

First I get an automated email:

"Your sensor connected to host 8073 currently runs in debug mode."

I check and debug mode is disabled. So I don't know why I get the email.

Then I check the WUs. This set-up is normally unmonitored so I don't watch the WUs come in and go out. Apparently they have been running for very short times (I did have the task length set to 24 hours) and I'm getting no credit for them, even though data is being recorded.

So, I unplug the sensor, plug it back in and it is still running short times (I now set the WU length to one hour). I'm getting credit but I have no idea why this is all happening as I hadn't adjusted anything for months.

Has my sensor malfunctioned?

Hi, first to the DZ4 i have solder it the way like shown at schematic.

@Szlopler, i will mesure how much volts are there but i dont have a multimeter here.

Can we have so discussion about DZ4?

The PCB layout is wrong - the cathode of DZ4 is connected to PULSE (pin 14 of IC1 / pin 1 of IC2) - and it should be connected to pin 6 of IC2. I have soldered mine on the underside of the PCD but this isn't ideal.

If the zener is soldered as per the layout, it doesn't actually do anything because the output of IC2 can't exceed VCC and that's OK for IC1. But... the inverting input of IC2b is no longer protected by that zener. I can't remember what internal protections the LM358 has so my concern is the long term effect of having no protection on that input - which is coming from the geiger tube.

Any comments?

Hi folks,

I have a question or two.

1. Do C10 and C13 have to be polymer? What about ceramics? Here's a bunch that are actually quite small: http://tinyurl.com/kitc10c13
2. Does D2 have to be ultra-fast?
3. What are the exact functions for each switch? I ask because on some of my detectors I won't be using the display nor the buzzer
4. What are the mechanical spacers for?
5. Is there a need for R10, R11, R13, R19 and R20 to be rated at 0.6W? I can understand the need for 1% but not 0.6W.

Thanks!
