11) Message boards : News : Shipping of detectors v2.60 (KIT) officially delayed (first batch) (Message 2578)

I truly thought I was done with this shipwreck but this package arrived unexpectedly so I make one last attempt to sort this puzzle out - never seen anything like it. Thanks.

Just quit it already. You sound like a spoiled brat. Stop whining.

If you hate how this project runs, there is NOTHING, ZERO, NADA stopping you from starting your own radioactive project. Then we can all come over to your project and comment on your professionalism.

Otherwise, quit yer whining.

Szopler,

FWIW, from my vantage point of 35+ years of designing, building, assembling and testing circuit boards, I have to congratulate you on a job well done. This is NOT a five minute exercise you went through and I for one really appreciate the effort you've put in. Please don't let one whining brat put you off developing more kits.

At least one of my detector kits will have a raspberry pi built in. Can't wait to see if I can fit it all in :D

12) Message boards : Number crunching : OSX version required (Message 2338)

The current OSX app is already outdated (however it's lacking only non-critical features).
As far as I know no one of the team has any experience with MACs, but it's never too late to learn, so I guess I have to start looking for tutorials :D
It would be nice to get some tips from someone who has some mac-compiling experience. Is it better to go for a virtual OSX machine setup, or cross-compiling environment on Linux ?

Time to revisit this, I think. There are apps for all kinds of less-common machines now. How about some Mac love?

Bump!

Is the design of the kit the same as shown here?

http://radioactiveathome.org/en/hardware/132-new-detector-prototype

If so, I have a couple of questions. Who can I direct the questions to?

Thanks!

I just sent payment for 3 more.

Thanks!

Well, keep in mind we don't all live in the EU. In my own case, my accounts are in US banks, which is why I brought it up, and well buying online often do it through charge card, but of course one doesn't want to put credit card numbers or the like on public forums (for obvious reasons). Of course, banks can do a currency conversion where needed (from USD to Euro for instance), but this leaves a check (the amount of course would have to be converted), check card, credit card, etc... A check, one would have to calculate the conversion rate, as one writes it in the denomination, in my own case in US dollars. A card, the bank calculates it for one, then charges one's account appropriately so the converted payment, is the correct amount in the seller's own local currency. Yeah, I know, international payments add a wrinkle as we don't all use the same currency, etc.

Definitely don't have any accounts in the EU. Live in New Jersey, specifically...

Hello to the Garden State!

I used paypal when I bought my sensor. Worked for me. If you don't want to use paypal, PM me on the team forum and I'll be happy to buy one/two/whatever for you and you can send me a check.

17) Message boards : Number crunching : Running the sensor on linux (Message 2053)
Posted 3852 days ago by Profile Steve Hawker*

I'm sorry but I didn't make a mistake.
I checked the rad_sensor_ubu.sh file I use, and it is write "ATTRS".
Perhaps "ATTR" is correct too, I didn't try.
I am not responsible for the French grammar, I'm just using it. And I know where to put an "S" when needed.

You should ignore the condescending attitude displayed by that person. He does it all the time all over the place.

The fact is that you are both right. Both ATTR and ATTRS are valid. I did a quick google search and learned a ton about udev rules. Almost enough to get it up and running - the fact I did was all down to the efforts of a teammate.

Awesome.

Hi Teammate :)

try

./radac_1.77_i686-pc-linux-gnu__nci

Notice the dot and the forward-slash in front of the program name to indicate the current directory. In most Linux distributions the current directory is not in the search path (for security reasons) when you are root.

I hope that helps.

Thanks! Now I see it, I remember doing this before, and of course it worked.

The outcome was that the detector was found. So my conclusion is that the rules is the problem. So i'm going to try your suggestion from our team site, which I reread this morning.

Could you try running the app standalone, as root ?
You'll have to rename the sensors_1.77.... to sensors.xml, the app saves the output to stderr.txt.

What am I doing wrong here?

Galactica radioactiveathome.org_boinc # whoami
root
Galactica radioactiveathome.org_boinc # pwd
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/radioactiveathome.org_boinc
Galactica radioactiveathome.org_boinc # ls -l
total 904
-rwxr-xr-x 1 boinc boinc 918132 Jul 8 20:22 radac_1.77_i686-pc-linux-gnu__nci
-rw-r--r-- 1 boinc boinc 2819 Jul 8 20:22 sensors.xml
Galactica radioactiveathome.org_boinc # radac_1.77_i686-pc-linux-gnu__nci
radac_1.77_i686-pc-linux-gnu__nci: command not found
Galactica radioactiveathome.org_boinc #

I tried the group setup - i confirmed the users were added
I created the rules file using ATTRS
I rebooted
I lit a candle and played Dark Side of the Moon

I am now utterly spent.

btw, the sensor worked flawlessly first time on an ancient Win XP machine but now I must let my wife have that back.
