The Olympics are in Beijing in 2008, how are the groups selected for that fencing competition?

The levels of athlete involvement has generated changes in the selection procedure for the Games. Each state is no longer guaranteed a player in each activity - today players and places need to compete against not just their countrymen, but against the others inside their region or place for an Olympic position.

In the 2004 Olympic Games all the men's events (epee, foil, and saber) were included, but two of the three women's events did not support the group competition.

The international fence federation (FIE) moves the events which will sit out the staff part of the Olympics, and for the 2008 Olympic Fencing opposition, Men's Foil and Women's Epee will only keep someone match.

Who reaches go?

Athletes are competing for slots based on their nation's standing in the world (for team events) and based on individual world rankings (for the individual events.) Here's a breakdown of what it'll take for an aspiring swordsman (or swordswoman) to get yourself a ticket to Beijing:

Tools with Group Activities (Men's Epee, Men's Sabre, Women's Foil, Women's Sabre ):

Staff Events are composed of groups of 3 fencers with 1 alternative. An overall total of 8 teams can compete in each team event (9 if China does not qualify a team directly). Dig up more on our favorite related use with by visiting fundable.

The top 4 teams on earth standings may qualify straight to the Olympics. The rest of the 4 teams are chosen based on local qualification. The most effective staff from each location (Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa) that is maybe not already qualified will earn a local cabin.

The person function is really a event with a field of 39 fencers. For the specific competition, the 2-4 fencers that ran in the team event qualify. Following the first 2-4 fencers are opted for, the top 3 in the World rankings qualify, with only one fencer from any one country. Another 7 are drawn from the Olympic zones while the top 2 from Europe, 2 from Asia, 2 from the Americas, and 1 from Africa, again with only 1 fencer from a state. The remaining 5 slots are dependant on a continental qualifying opposition with 2 from Europe and 1 from each of the remaining places.

Think about Men's Foil and Women's Epee?

Another set of requirements is used to choose the 24 fencers who will participate in the Men's Foil and Women's Epee events. While there is no team function, each individual will need to qualify on their own merit and not on the position of their national team. The next method can be used to select the 24 individual entries:

The top 8 in the World rankings obtain tickets punched (but only 2 could go from the same state from this set.) Following the first 8 are selected, the following 8 in are chosen by region depending on modified world rankings. (There are 3 slots for Europe, 2 for Asia, 2 for the Americas, and 1 for Africa.) The final 8 qualify based on continental contests where countries that have perhaps not qualified any fencers on the first 2 rounds. Within the last few round, the allocation of slots remains at 3 Europe, 2 Asia and Americas, and 1 for Africa.

Outlook for america

May the US earn a medal in 2008?

America received Bronze and Gold medals in Women's sabre in 2004. Sada Jacobson and Mariel Zagunis are still at the top of the world ranks and are joined by young fencing phenom Becca Ward, who last year won the personal world tournament title at the Cadet, Junior, and Senior levels of competition. The USA is chosen to honor in Women's Sabre.

In the other weapons, the greatest hopes are with Men's Sabre as the individual associates are posting good results for the year..
