We have added reactor icons (with details) to our radioactivity map.

8 were shut down in March 2011, and got no new permission with the new nuclear law passed in August 2011, so de jure they were shut down in August, but de facto in March.
The remaining 9 are to phase out until at last 2022.
No new nuclear plants will be build.

My list has only operational reactors and was not up to date, so I add off-line reactors from your list as well (or power plants - depending of info found in Internet).
Also, I think that maybe I need separate icon for off-line reactors, to make map clear?

1. There are some old closed reactors on the map - but Chernobyl is missing !?

2. Fukushima Daiichi is listed as operating ? - Isnt it destroyed and so not operating ?

Very good idea! Perhaps the nuclear symbol should be little bigger? Its not so good visible like the green spot on a map.

I want to cut in this research reactor question too. We have one with 250kW in Vienna and my second sensor will be mounted max. 500m Airline from it on sunday ;)

If research reactors is of interest for this project, there exists 2 of them in Norway.
Both is driven by "Institute for Energy Technology" (IFE).

The most known is the "Halden project" (started 1959) where 19 different countrys are involved in research for safety in different areas regarding nuclar plants.

The Haldenreactor is a 25 MW heavywatermoderated- and cooled boiling reactor.
The reactor is in operation about 50% of the year, the rest of the year is preperations for science tests. (the reactor produces only steam, no power).

The other one is the "JEEP-II" reactor on Kjeller that was started in 1955.
This project is connected to the Halden project, and primary produces isoptopes for use in medicin and research.

Kjeller is located 22,6 km northeast of Oslo, just north outside of Lillestrøm.
Halden is located 117 km south east of Oslo, at the border to Sweeden, close to Strömstad in Sweeden.

I still have a problem when I go to that page the info is there but no map on the bottom. Instead of map there is a 0 ? Think someone will have to look at my account? Not sure why map is not showing up. Thanks for response.... Gary

I assume it would almost have to be a "layer", since it make the view busy in some areas.
Someone had made a layer for google earth in a similar way, elsewhere on the net.
Uranium mines would also be another potential "poi".

Doesn't coal power plant leak more radiation than nuclear power plant? Normal operating nuclear PP should be safer than coal, why not add those to map too?

I found some updates for the Canadian reactor data on the map:

Bruce (next to the Great Lakes) has the following 2 additional reactors that have returned to service: Bruce-1 and Bruce-2. On the map they go next to 3 and 4.

As an overall comment on the reactor map, I found it at first unbelievable that the reactor capacities are so low, until I realized that the icon represents only one of the reactors at each site, not the total capacity. It is only by zooming in very close that one can see the other reactors at the site and get a sense of the total capacity. Is it possible to show the total capacity when the map has room for only one icon? Or add an icon for the total that is on top until you zoom in close?
