Sorry about delay but during the tests in Prypiat our fellow found a bug in firmware which caused in freezing the value at the LCD or even show values under zero. Now when this bug is fixed and sensors passed all the tests I can send it to you.

ID: 294 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote

Has anyone in the US received their package yet ? p.s. Looks like I'm staying at #1 in the UK for a while longer. Never mind, you are #2. Out of 2. Or *last* as we call it :P Al. ____________

Yeah, and no way to catch up without more detectors :)

Looking at the charts page I don't see anything west of Europe yet, so I guess not. I only got mine in the UK a few days ago. Sorry, but you can find two detectors in Germany, one in Spain and one in UK (and obviously two: Netherlands and Belgium as prototypes and main in UK as well). Be patient, deliveries not always are quick... Still on its way 24 in Germany, few in Canada and USA... ____________ Regards, Krzysztof 'krzyszp' Piszczek Android Radioactive@Home Map Android Radioactive@Home Map - donated My Workplace

That's an interesting spike on your graph today..... Yes, I'm trying to work out when it happened. I think it was after I posted or I'd have seen it. Not sure what the sample interval is ... 1 minute perhaps? Al. ____________

How big of a package is it being delivered in? Maybe it was a box too big for my mail box, and was delivered to my door, and then stolen?
ID: 501 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Images in the My Detector thread in the Cafe give a good indication of size. Add a little more for packaging material and you might have about 6" X 6" X 4". My mailbox can hold 5 that size so I know I haven't missed delivery. Probably the packages to Canada and USA are just sitting in customs waiting for clearance.
ID: 503 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
6 weeks and nothing... bordering on the ridiculous.
ID: 523 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
I would think if customs had them, they would send a message somewhere to the tune of WTF is this? You did the paperwork wrong, this can't get in, something for you to see there is a problem.
ID: 526 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
6 weeks and nothing... bordering on the ridiculous. If they haven't arrived in the UK by now then something is seriously wrong. I think I'll just order the parts and wire it up on perf board. I've learned this lesson before, if the package can't be tracked it never arrives. Does anybody know if the packages were insured? Is there any possibility of receiving a refund? ____________
ID: 527 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Dagorath, I'm in the US (though originally from the UK).
ID: 528 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Dagorath, I kind of doubt the packages were insured. From overseas the price if they were would probably be triple, because of the reasons you just mentioned. You are in Canada right? Would not surprise me if our customs was playing who is stupider with your customs and that is why the stuff isn't getting where it belongs.
ID: 529 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Triple because of insurance? No way. Do the math... you're saying an item worth $50 would cost $100 to insure against loss. Pay twice what the item is worth to insure it against loss in a system that rarely loses anything? Ridiculous!!!
ID: 530 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Customs rules can be different for every country.
ID: 531 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
If Canadian or US customs had even the slightest suspicion that the package might be a bomb there would be a bomb squad with an explosives sniffing dog there within minutes. There is not a snow ball's chance in hell that they would toss the package in a corner and ignore it because lives are at stake, their lives. An explosives expert would see immediately that the tube is far too light to contain an explosive. Also, nobody builds a programmable timer/detonator with a transformer and a buzzer on it and terrorists don't build such a circuit anyway, they pull one out of a microwave oven or buy a kitchen timer for a couple bucks and adapt it. Make a nice PCB just to get blown up? Not likely. A bomb theory would last about 10 minutes, if that.

I don't really believe, that all parcels to USA (5) and one to Canada are missing - this is not possible...
ID: 537 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Were the parcels insured?
ID: 538 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Krzy I do hope you are right, but if they are being held in customs, if you shipped them all the same day, they most likely arrived at customs the same day and then yes, they easily all could have been detained. They might have even arrived in the same bag from your country. As for the one Canada package, I can not offer a logical explanation that I have experienced, or would have genuine knowledge about, but do say, maybe US was first stop, canada second. Since the US got 5, Canada 1, logistics might have said, send them all to new york... as an example, then the one from there, put on a truck to canada. Maybe Our customs grabbed it?
ID: 539 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Were the parcels insured? I doubt that, I'm not even sure if there is an option to insure registered mails here in Poland. However when the registered package/mail is lost they have to pay up to 10 times the shipping cost; which is probably more than the detector is worth. At least it works like that for local shipments, I'm not sure about international.

Today I was at the post office and write a reclamation of six registered letters which have been sent to US and CD. They have 14 days to reply...
ID: 553 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
So you're saying you didn't investigate the maximum size of the letter *before* sending the package and the post office accepted the letter but tossed them in the garbage because they are too big? WTF!!!!?????
ID: 554 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Post Office staff have to check parcel before they take it!!!

So tell me please how is maximal size of the letter in Canada & the US! See http://USPS.com Here's a short cut to a page for us to send international mail, I would guess incoming packages follow similar size rules. https://www.usps.com/send/prepare-international-shipments.htm. They only have about 100 rules for sizes, shapes, classes and yada, yada, yada. I'm not sure they even understand them.
ID: 557 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote

So tell me please how is maximal size of the letter in Canada & the US! Sorry, from your previous post it seemed like nobody checked the parcel dimensions, not even the post office. I don't know the rules in Canada but I know they weigh and measure each parcel, input the numbers into a computer and the computer decides if the parcel can go as a registered letter. As Keith says, even the post office employess don't know the rules but the computer does. @ Krzysztof, Thank your the news about the US parcel. Now there is hope.

"Just last week" - that's all what I know.
ID: 562 | Rating: 0 | rate: / Reply Quote
Generally, worse case, IF the package was 'too big' for a certain category, ie you were 5 cm too long or something stupid like that, they would just tack on the extra postage and it would be 'postage due' at the receivers end. The person getting it would have to give the post office their 13 cents for the letter :x

Thanks, otax, I am proud to be on the map. For anybody in America still waiting for their detector... I don't think my package was opened by anybody for inspection, eg. customs officers, so the reason for the delay is still a mystery to me. Hope to see some green dots in USA soon.

Thanks! I didn't know that other site even existed. Is there anything on the BOINC site that points out that other site? The next step is to connect the GM tube which is a part of our radiation detection. Two wires (preferably in different colors or with alligator clips in different colors to distinguish them) must be connected to the blue screw connector marked CON3 (and the words of "GM-Tube"). The end of the tube marked '(+)' to be connected to the cable going to the ends also the marked '+', by analogy with the tip of the tube without any indication to the second cable."\ Do alligator clips go on both ends of each wire? I think not, because I am not sure how one would clip on to the connections of the blue box. I would like to see how that connection is made. I am not trying to slam the directions. But I think there may be some translation issues. And again, a picture is universal. ____________ Dublin, CA Team SETI.USA

Thanks! I didn't know that other site even existed. Is there anything on the BOINC site that points out that other site? There's a thread about it: Assembly manual available Unfortunately it's a bit crammed with discussions about the lethality of 400VDC with minuscle Amperes ;) But the very first and very last post show you the way to a) the manual and b) the video. ____________ Gruesse vom Saenger
