Radioactive@Home

is a Polish science project using the distributed computing capabilities of the BOINC platform. The main goal of the project is to create a free and continuously updated map of radiation levels available for everyone, by gathering information about gamma radiation using sensors connected to the computers of volunteers willing to participate in the project. Project is completely non-commercial, participating will be free of charge (excluding cost of detector) and the software will be licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

How to join to project?

Installing BOINC software

This project uses BOINC, full description for installation methods are available here.

If you're already running BOINC, select Add Project. If not, download BOINC.

The project uses dedicated hardware sensor; without it the app does nothing and no credits are granted.

We provide detectors but we doing it in pre-paid batches from time to time. Is no other possibility to order sensors.

But if you have enough knowledge, you can build it yourself...
I have my sensor, what next?
- If you haven't account in project yet, you can use this link to do this. Fill required fields on provided form then go to next step.
- Connect your sensor to available USB port.
- Run BOINC Manager application.
- Select "Tools -> Add project" option from dropdown menu in manager.
- Select "Next".
- In "Project URL" text box insert "http://radioactiveathome.org/boinc/".
- Fill boxes with your new account details.
That's it. If you have done all this steps, manager should contact automatically with our server and get work units to work with your detector.

How to set my position on world map?

It's easy.

When manager finish and upload first work unit in your account under computer settings you find small world map. There you can set your position for this host.
