Radioactive@Home

is a Polish science project using the distributed computing capabilities of the BOINC platform. The main goal of the project is to create a free and continuously updated map of radiation levels available for everyone, by gathering information about gamma radiation using sensors connected to the computers of volunteers willing to participate in the project. Project is completely non-commercial, participating will be free of charge (excluding cost of detector) and the software will be licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Prototype - First attempts

Because of the small progress in the project, it's time to give some more info.
Two prototypes of the sensor reached me. First problem was to change the frequency it works on (from 1MHz to 12MHz, for the v-usb software to work).


Additionally we wanted certain parameters to be displayed on LCD

As You can see on the picture, it was successful Smiley

Currently MichaƂ is trying to implement USB support in the device. Next step will be communication test and developing BOINC application.

You can't see the SBM-20 tube yet on the picture, because for the tests the tube and the transformer ware disconnected.
